Portland's mayoral election is about more than the next four years, it is about the future of our city and what it will offer generations to come. As future Mayor of the City of Portland I'm excited to help shape that future for our children, our families, and our city. Portland's opportunities and challenges must be met with collaboration, consensus building, and independent leadership.
Portland has evolved into a great city during the 15 years I have lived here. Our beautiful natural setting, strong neighborhoods, rich cultural community, and vibrant local economy make Portland a special place. I want to ensure that my son and his generation are able to enjoy these same opportunities. Our schools and neighborhoods must attract and keep families, our economy must provide jobs and opportunities for the future, and we must maintain the quality of life that makes this one of the best cities in the country.
For the past fifteen years I have dedicated my career to public service in the City of Portland. When the Portland's Traffic Plan was calling for a widening of Franklin Street I got up to speed on traffic issues, found the flaws in the plan, and organized the public to identify alternatives that better met Portland's goals. When our Community Development Block Grant was broke I worked with others to design a strategic and transparent system based on community-based criteria. When our schools were ready to increase the accountability and support of our professional evaluation system I went back to school so I was sure I could help. When Portland was searching for it's last Police Chief I was called upon to help in the process. I’ve walked the path, not of a traditional politician, but that of a civic leader; revitalizing a neighborhood organization, teaching at-risk, immigrant, and college-bound students, and building consensus to improve our community. I've brought people together to chart a path forward to create the future our community envisions for itself.
Portland's Elected Mayor presents an opportunity to seize control of our future. It’s not a job for those who think it is a ‘cushy gig’ or a political stepping-stone. Portland deserves a mayor who loves this city and has shown intelligence, passion, and commitment to bettering it for everyone.
